The Story Behind
the Static
Why we built an app to make your own media feel like television again.
There's a specific feeling that's hard to describe if you didn't grow up with it. Saturday morning, still in pajamas, the TV already on from the night before. You'd grab the remote and start flipping. Past infomercials, through cartoons, landing on a movie you'd seen twice already but watching it anyway because it was on. There was something about not choosing what to watch. About surrendering to the schedule. About stumbling onto something unexpected at 2am because you couldn't sleep and channel 47 was showing a documentary about submarines.
Streaming killed that feeling. Not on purpose. The on-demand model is incredible and nobody wants to go back to paying for cable. But somewhere along the way, we traded the joy of discovery for the paralysis of choice. We scroll through thousands of titles, get overwhelmed, and eventually put on the same show we've already seen four times. The algorithm tries to help, but it's not the same. It's curated. It's optimized. It's not alive.
Bunny Ears TV started with a simple question: What if your Plex library could feel like broadcast television? Not a playlist. Not a queue. Real channels, running on a schedule, with a program guide you could flip through. Over 200 channels built from your own movies, shows, and music, organized into every genre and mood you can think of. It's an indie project, built by someone who loves both home servers and the golden age of cable TV, and who wanted to feel that old feeling one more time. This time, with their own collection.
What We Believe
Your Media Stays Home
Bunny Ears TV never touches your files. Everything stays on your Plex server, on your network. We don't collect viewing data, library metadata, or personal information. Your media is yours. We just help you enjoy it differently.
Free Forever, Then Fair Pricing
Basic channels work free, forever. No catch, no expiration. When you're ready for the full lineup, pricing is straightforward: a cheap monthly option, a yearly plan that supports ongoing development, and a one-time lifetime purchase for those who'd rather just own it.
No Ads. Not Now. Not Ever.
Bunny Ears TV will never show advertisements. Not in the guide, not during playback, not anywhere. The only thing on your channels is the content you put there. You built your library to get away from all that. We're not about to bring it back.
Built With Love, Not Venture Capital
This isn't a startup chasing growth metrics. It's a passion project built by someone who actually uses it every day. Features get added because they make the experience better, not because they move a number on a dashboard.
Native. Fast. Purpose-Built.
Bunny Ears TV is built from the ground up in SwiftUI, running natively on Apple TV. No web views, no cross-platform compromises. It's a real tvOS app designed for the big screen and the Siri Remote.
Deep integration with the Plex API means automatic server discovery via Sign In with Plex, instant library syncing, and direct playback without any transcoding overhead. The program guide generates in seconds, even for libraries measured in multiple terabytes, because the code was written to handle scale from day one.
The result is an app that launches fast, feels responsive on the remote, and stays out of the way once your channels are rolling. Just TV software that works.
