Soaps, telenovelas, and melodramas. Desperate Housewives, Dallas, Dynasty, Bridgerton, Downton Abbey, and the classic daytime soaps. Plot twists measured in betrayals per episode.

War films. Not documentaries about war, not comedies set during war. Dramatic, intense, and action-driven war movies from any era. Bring tissues or adrenaline, depending on the decade.

Cowboys, outlaws, and wide-open landscapes. From classic John Wayne shootouts to modern revisionist westerns that make you question everything the old ones taught you.

Western TV shows. Yellowstone, Deadwood, Justified, Longmire, and the TV westerns from way back when every network had at least three of them.

Every movie where the planet fights back. Twister, The Day After Tomorrow, Armageddon, 2012, San Andreas. Earthquakes, asteroids, volcanoes, and scientists nobody listens to until it is too late.

Big-budget action, adventure, and sci-fi movies rated 6.0 or higher. The popcorn movies that actually deliver. No bottom-of-the-barrel knockoffs sneaking through.

Tension and suspense without the horror. Twists, double-crosses, and psychological games. The movies where every character might be lying and you are not sure who to root for.

Classic noir from the 1940s, 50s, and 60s. Shadowy cinematography, morally questionable protagonists, and femme fatales. Best watched in black and white with a drink you probably should not be having.

Movies rated R and NC-17 with all the family-friendly stuff stripped away. The grown-ups-only channel. Put the kids to bed first.

Horror, sci-fi, and comedy from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The midnight movie circuit. Campy, weird, beloved, and so low-budget you can see the zipper on the monster suit. That is the charm.

Movies from the 2010s and 2020s with a 7.5+ rating. The modern films already earning classic status. Give them ten more years and they will be in film school syllabi.

The undead in all their forms. Walking Dead, 28 Days Later, Zombieland, Train to Busan, and every other story about the world ending slowly and then all at once. Cardio matters.

Feature-length nonfiction. The big-screen documentaries and biographies from your library. The stuff that makes you say "I had no idea" at least three times.

Multi-episode nonfiction. The series that spend six hours telling you a story a movie would rush through in two.

Planet Earth, Blue Planet, Frozen Planet, anything David Attenborough has narrated, and the full catalog of "oh wow, nature is terrifying" programming. Beautiful cinematography, questionable food chains.

Cosmos, MythBusters, How It's Made, and docs about physics, space, engineering, and AI. The channel that makes you briefly consider going back to school before remembering how much that costs.

Historical documentaries, biographies, and historical drama. Ken Burns, ancient civilizations, World War II deep dives, and medieval chaos. History, but the interesting parts.

Sports documentaries and athlete stories. The Last Dance, Drive to Survive, Hard Knocks, and biographical films like Rocky and Moneyball. The channel that makes you feel inspired and then immediately sedentary.

Binge-worthy nonfiction. Wild Wild Country, Tiger King, Chef's Table, Formula 1: Drive to Survive. The documentary equivalent of "just one more episode."

Nature footage, aquarium loops, fireplace videos, aerial scenery, and anything else designed to be on while you do something else. The screen saver channel. No drama, no tension, no plot twists. Just vibes.
